I purchased this door about 3 years ago at an antique shop in Glen Ellyn. I paid $10 for it, it's solid wood with white paint cracking off of it. It is heavy, let me tell you. It moved from my old apartment to our house, over the last 2 years we've decided to throw it away 2 times, but it never made it to the trash (thankfully!). I love this door, but I really have NO idea what to do with it anymore. I'm putting it on here so I can collect your ideas! Please....tell me what you would do with it if it were yours. :)

I still think it would make an awesome table- add legs and put glass on top.
ReplyDeleteYeah, a table is a good idea. Or you could make it into a gigantic mirror and lean it up against the wall like you have it (of course, with one big piece of glass, you'd cover the "inlay"), a la http://marketplace.hgtv.com/Product.aspx?Lid=3551-WM756spaceBRZspaceMED. Or you could stand it up and make it a room divider. Or you could put it in a corner (inside or outside) and hang stuff like http://www.potterybarn.com/products/kingsley-wooden-lantern/ or http://www.potterybarn.com/products/park-hill-windowpane-lantern/ around it with other accessories (bench? plants?) at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteOo, look what I found: http://www.hgtv.com/bedrooms/turn-an-architectural-item-into-art/index.html. Your door is probably too big and heavy, this is cool nonetheless.
ReplyDeletewe considered making a headboard out of an old door for a while. Great find Jill!
